The cigar lounge at Havana Dee’s features leather seats and chairs, tables and chic decor within its dimly lit walls.

After two years of back-and-forth negotiation, Frisco, Texas, now has a cigar-friendly steakhouse where diners can legally puff on a post-porterhouse cigar in peace—or a rib eye.

Restaurateur Dee Lincoln was originally going to build a separate, offsite cigar club outside her namesake restaurant, but she continued to push for a smoking room within the structure, and now Dee Lincoln Prime and Havana Dee’s cigar room are under the same roof.

“Two years of Havana Dee’s in the making,” Lincoln said. “[From] working with two amazing Frisco mayors and a very supportive city council, [to] a team of great people to assist in installing a state-of-the-art filtration system and three design changes to get it right.”

Originally planned as a members-only cigar club, Havana Dee’s was slated to open its doors in August 2019, but was pushed back to April 2020 prior to the pandemic as Lincoln worked further with the city council to integrate the lounge with the steakhouse. She succeeded. Now, guests can eat, drink and smoke in the same room without having to leave the premises. While Havana Dee’s is not a members-only club, guests must make reservations to get a seat in the cigar lounge.

Guests can reserve seats on the studded leather couch, which is accompanied by several comfortable leather chairs.

Totaling 1,450 square feet, Havana Dee’s is a self-contained lounge within the steakhouse that is accessible through a wooden, speakeasy-style door at the back of the restaurant. The lounge features a bar stocked with high-end spirits, a specially commissioned saloon-style Marilyn Monroe painting adorning one wall, a large abstract mural adorning another wall and a ceiling decorated to resemble Cuban window shutters.

Cocktail waitresses will take cigar orders and bring them to guests. The lounge carries premium cigar brands such as Padrón, Davidoff and Partagas.

In compliance with Covid-19 regulations, the steakhouse itself closed earlier this year but reopened its five dining rooms to 25 percent capacity in May, which gradually increased and, as of September 21, has returned to 75 percent capacity.

The lounge, which has a 55-person capacity, can seat 40 guests in order to adhere to social distancing guidelines. In the lounge, guests must remain seated at all times and assorted couches have been set up in various configurations to accommodate proper social distance guidelines.

Havana Dee’s hosted its first private reception event last night and will be throwing one every evening this week until Friday, October 2, when the lounge begins to formally accept reservations.

“I’m excited to finally open this exclusive speakeasy cigar lounge,” Lincoln told Cigar Aficionado. “It’s been long-awaited by the guests of Dee Lincoln Prime and brings an experience like no other.”
