Lucky punter wins £417k after betting just £5 on four horses at odds of 60,000/1 – Daily Star

A boxing coach delivered a knockout win by taking home £417,331 on the horses.

Neil Maher, 40, floored the bookies by defying odds of 60,000/1 with four winners.

He did a £5 each-way Lucky 15 bet with Betfred.

And the dad-of-two from Liverpool said he is going to splash his windfall on a honeymoon with long-term partner Leanne.

Heating engineer Neil said: “We didn’t have anything planned in terms of a honeymoon, but now with this brilliant win we’re off to Cuba which I’ve always thought is an interesting place…I will also be getting Leanne a much more expensive wedding ring.

“The horses came in on Saturday and Leanne has been really emotional and has barely stopped crying.

“As well as the special honeymoon, I’m going to invest in some property, probably buy to rent or maybe a self build.”

He joked: “I doubt even now I can get anything like as many houses as Robbie Fowler!

“My sons will get basically whatever they want after what is my biggest win ever by a long chalk.”

Neil has been together with his childhood sweetheart for over years and they are planning to tie the knot in July.

The owner and head coach at Aintree Amateur Boxing Club found himself in the money after studying form late on Friday and making his picks just before midnight.

Betfred boss Fred arranged for the punter to have a bottle of champagne and a Cuban cigar.

Neil says he will splash the cash on his long-term partner Leanne, left

He said: “Neil has got me on the ropes with this one, but let’s say I may have been floored but it’s only round one!

“Good luck and well done. You boxed clever and beat me fair and square.

“Your win included a £37,000 bonus from us with all four of your horses galloping home first.”
