Regional La Gloria Cubana Comes to the UK – Cigar Aficionado
It’s a few years late, but the 2017 Regional Edition La Gloria Cubana Británicas Extra has finally made it to the United Kingdom.
The new smoke is a double figurado measuring 5 3/8 inches long by 48 ring gauge. It retails for £30.20 each (about $38) and comes in 10-count boxes. Only 6,000 numbered boxes have been produced, for a total of 60,000 cigars.
Astute observers will notice that, unlike other Cuban La Gloria Cubanas, the bands on these shapely smokes are more richly colored and detailed than bands found on standard La Gloria Cubana cigars. First seen on the La Gloria Cubana Gloriosos (a Regional Edition from 2008), this striking design is a period rendition from the early 20th century exclusive to the U.K. and is referred to by regional distributor Hunters & Frankau as “the Belle Epoque lady who looks as though she has just stepped out of a Toulouse Lautrec painting.”
The cigar is also known as Británicas Extra in Cuban cigar factories and is the same size as the Bolivar Británicas, a U.K. Regional Edition from 2011. Last year, the U.K. received the El Rey del Mundo La Reina, a long, slim Regional Edition made in the same size as the Cohiba Lancero.
