Tom Hardy is almost unrecognizable as Al Capone in new gangster film ‘Fonzo’ – POP TIMES UK

It seems like Tom Hardy has a knack for character transformations. The highly acclaimed British actor finds himself in an unusually high number of roles where his face is partially covered—think ‘Dunkirk’, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’. When his full face is visible, then he metamorphoses into a character so fully that it’s almost impossible to recognize him—like the grizzly mountain man John Fitzgerald in ‘The Revenant’, for which Hardy earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Most recently having previously played both of the Kray twins in the 2015 film ‘Legend’, Hardy is now taking on yet another character transformation – this time as an even more famous gangster and mob boss. In a tweet first published by ticketing giant Fandango, we can barely recognize Hardy yet again as he steps into the shoes of Chicago mobster Al Capone for the upcoming gangster film ‘Fonzo’.

Hardy, 40, looks unrecognizable as Capone, fully-fitted with a receding hairline, dark lips and a Cuban cigar. The tweet has since been deleted for some reason, but not before some of the Twitterati getting their hands on it. Check out Hardy’s new look for the film below.

The film, directed by Joshua Trank, gets its title from Capone’s first full name, Alphonse and will focus on the final years of Capone’s life as he was tormented by his past before dying of a heart attack at the age of 48 in 1947. As per the official synopsis of the film, “Once a ruthless businessman and bootlegger who ruled Chicago with an iron fist, Alfonse Capone was the most infamous and feared gangster of American lore. At the age of 47, following nearly a decade of imprisonment, dementia rots Alfonse’s mind and his past becomes present as harrowing memories of his violent and brutal origins melt into his waking life.”

This new picture comes a few months after Trank and Hardy both shared a couple photos of Hardy as Al Capone on Instagram. Take a look at the pictures below.

‘Fonzo’ was originally supposed to come out in 2018 but was pushed to a 2019 release because of Hardy’s role in the upcoming movie ‘Venom’.
